Tom looks out over Chamonix town which is buried in cloud. |
Looking straight down at the mid station you can see the Aiguilles skyline as a shadow on the cloud and just to the right of the shadow of the midi there was a circular rainbow in the clouds. You can see it in the big picture if you click on the smaller one. |
At the top of the little climb to the top of the first pitch. |
Myself tackling the first pitch. It's the way Tom holds the camera that makes it look not steep ;-) |
Tom on the second pitch. |
And me on the second pitch. The snow here was much better than on the first where it had been a bit thin. |
Looking at that bit of glacier I'd have to agree that it needs to fill in a bit. |
The further down we got the better the snow got. |
Some interesting seracs to wind our way between. |
More of the same. |
See the snow just below Tom's feet... |
... How well do you think it was bonded to the ice beneath. |
Back at Montenvers we had a little look around one of the old ice caves. It wasn't worth the effort of digging out the crampons and head torch. I would be fully disappointed if I had paid to go in it. |
